Cerebral vasculitis is a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by the inflammation of cerebral blood vessels from diverse aetiologies that pose great diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. The classification of childhood cerebral vasculitis is diverse and challenging. They can be classified based on clinical phenotypes (organ-specific vs systemic), aetiology (primary vs secondary), histological pattern (granulomatous vs non-granulomatous), and on the basis of vessel size (small, medium or large vessels).

Educational Goals / Teaching Points
Review the current literature and classification of childhood cerebral vasculitis; explain the aetiopathogenesis of the cerebral vasculitis; describe the precise role of various imaging modalities in the diagnosis of childhood cerebral vasculitis and illustrate the diverse imaging findings; and discuss the mimics that masquerade as childhood cerebral vasculitis.

Key Anatomic/Physiologic Issues and Imaging Findings/Techniques
Simplified classification based on the aetiology (primary and secondary). A comprehensive discussion of various aetiologies resulting in vasculitis. Illustrate the vascular and parenchymal manifestations in cerebral vasculitis. Discuss the non-inflammatory vasculopathies that present as cerebral vasculitis. Highlight the rare inherited disorders that are associated with vascular CNS disease. Illustrate the role of conventional imaging modalities and advanced imaging sequences in the diagnosis and prognosis of cerebral vasculitis.

The purpose of this exhibit is to highlight the role of imaging in the diagnosis of the cerebral vasculitis and to highlight the occurrence of atypical and uncommon findings. We also would focus on the role of combined clinical and radiological approach in arriving at the final diagnosis along with histopathological examination and genetic workup.
