E1823. Rare, But We Should Be Aware! Uncommon Liver Abnormalities

Background
Liver abnormalities are frequently seen in abdominal radiology. Although common ones have well-recognized imaging features pointing to correct diagnosis, uncommon liver abnormalities and lesions pose a diagnostic challenge because of unfamiliar imaging findings. Some rare lesions can also mimic more common hepatic diseases and it is important to consider them in differential. The purpose of this scientific exhibit is to review the imaging findings of some rare liver abnormalities.

Educational Goals / Teaching Points
To familiarize the viewer with rare liver entities which may aid earlier recognition in future, thus helping in guiding further management.

Key Anatomic/Physiologic Issues and Imaging Findings/Techniques
Various cases will be presented in this exhibit with short discussions, illustrated examples and images. The cases will be organized in three categories: 1. Infection/Inflammation/Iatrogenic entities; 2. Benign tumors; and 3. Malignant tumors. The Infection/Inflammation/Iatrogenic entities will include syphilis, perihepatitis (Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome), peliosis hepatis, sarcoidosis, inflammatory pseudotumor, extramedullary hematopoiesis, splenosis, radiation hepatitis, infarction and retraction injury. Lipoma, angiomyolipoma and hemangiomatosis will be presented in benign tumor category. Malignant tumors category will include lymphoma, primary neuroendocrine tumor, plasmacytoma, mucinous cholangiocarcinoma and sarcomatoid carcinoma.

Conclusion
Uncommon liver lesions are a diagnostic challenge for radiologists. Although in the majority of cases, the diagnosis must be confirmed by histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis, familiarity with these rare entities and the imaging features can help in more accurate radiological evaluation and in raising the diagnostic suspicion in appropriate clinical setting.
