Background
Ultrasound (US)-guided biopsies are common procedures performed in breast imaging. Although breast imagers are well versed in the technique, the ergonomic aspects of performing the procedure are often overlooked. Poor ergonomic technique while performing procedures adds on to the damage done by poor ergonomics at reading stations, leading to many radiologists reporting repetitive stress injuries (RSIs). Attention to procedural ergonomics involves optimizing patient positioning, streamlining room set up, and selecting the appropriate device.

Educational Goals / Teaching Points
After reviewing this exhibit participants will be able to do the following: be aware of RSIs caused by poor procedural ergonomics; become familiar with the signs and symptoms of RSI; discuss ergonomic challenges during US-guided biopsy; describe various ergonomic interventions that can minimize RSI; and learn the challenges to implementing various ergonomic solutions.

Key Anatomic/Physiologic Issues and Imaging Findings/Techniques
This exhibit reviews ergonomic challenges faced by radiologists during US-guided breast biopsy.

Conclusion
RSIs are common in radiologists and often result secondary to poor ergonomics. This exhibit provides a review of common RSI, ergonomic challenges and their solutions pertaining to US-guided breast biopsy.
