Background
Intrauterine devices (IUD) are a commonly used contraceptive method worldwide due to their more than 99% effectiveness. As a prevalent contraceptive method, IUD use can be associated with different complications. Knowing the imaging findings of these possible complications by different modalities is crucial in managing these complications and preventing further undesired consequences.

Educational Goals / Teaching Points
1. Review the different types of IUDs. 2. Discuss characteristic imaging features of IUDs with different imaging modalities. 3. Highlight the role of imaging in establishing accurate diagnosis of IUD complications with a multimodality approach. 4. Review imaging features of IUD with pregnancy. 5. Discuss imaging features of IUD mimickers.

Key Anatomic/Physiologic Issues and Imaging Findings/Techniques
Different types of IUDs: copper, hormonal. Characteristic imaging features of different types of IUD on radiography, ultrasound (2D and 3D), CT, and MRI. Multimodality approach for diagnosis of IUD complications: malposition, perforation (partial/complete), migration, infection, conceptive failure (retained IUD in pregnancy), and embedment. Mimics of IUDs on imaging, such as retained fragments and endometrial hyperplasia.

Conclusion
As being a popular method for contraceptives, IUD use can be associated with different types of complications. Differentiating the imaging findings of these possible complications using different modalities and differentiating IUDs from other pathologies that can mimic their appearance on different imaging modalities, is crucial in the management of these complications and prevents further undesired consequences.
