Background
Superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS) presents due to obstruction of the superior vena cava (SVC) causing increase in venous pressure of the upper extremities and head. It is important to recognize this syndrome clinically and radiographically to help alleviate the venous pressure and provide symptomatic relief to patients. Understanding the different etiologies and imaging findings can help guide appropriate treatment by the interventional radiologist. Awareness of possible complications can help limit adverse results and ensure proper follow up if necessary.

Educational Goals / Teaching Points
Etiologies of SVCS , clinical presentation and appropriate clinical workup. Review of SVC on imaging and anatomy of collateral pathways. Demonstrate role of interventional radiology in treatment. Posttreatment follow up and complications.

Key Anatomic/Physiologic Issues and Imaging Findings/Techniques
Review of SVCS imaging findings with different modalities. Review of collateral anatomy. Understanding of etiologies and pathophysiology that leads to SVCS.

Conclusion
It is important to recognize the clinical and radiological findings to diagnose SVCS due to it being reversible with appropriate intervention. Understanding the intervention can guide physicians in proper preprocedural work up as well as follow up.
